Evidence of the American was very scarce in this chapter. The whole idea of the little part at Myrtle’s apartment hinted at the American Dream in that there was a group of people getting together to drink and talk, but other than that there wasn’t much significant evidence of the American Dream being displayed in this chapter

The character of Tom definatley had a different side to him no shown in Chapter one. First, he and Myrtle do their thing while getting after getting very drunk. Next Tom breaks Myrtles nose and doesn’t really even give a second thought to it. He is very casual about it. It is also revealed that he doesn’t like to mix his secret fantasy life with his reality.

The color gray is significant in this chapter. “Occasionally a line of gray cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak, and comes to rest, and immediately the ash-gray”
