Gatsby Ch 4

1.) American Dream: THe description of Gatsby’s car is kind of the American Dream. Also Gastby’s stories about himself illustrate the American Dream. Going off to war to fight for his country and taveling other countries and appreciating the arts.

2.) Character Development: IN this chapter we see a different side of Gatsby. He insists on showing proof of his background from being in war. He claims he is from the mid west and when Nick asks him what part he says San Fransisco. San Fransisco is not in the mid west so we can see that Gatsby is lying just to make himself look better. He also is afraid to tell Nick straight up that he wants to meet with Daisy. He has to say it through Jordan like a second grader. This new attitude changes the audience’s impression of him being wealthy and smooth to kind of childish.

3.) The color green is significant in this chapter along with Creme. Gatsbys car has a green interior and a creme exterior. This symbolizes new money and old money and kind of symbolizes who Gatsby is on in the inside.
